GLUING END BLOCKS TO SIDES OF GUITAR SUBASSEMBLY

CHALLENGE

The customer required a fast, easy loading and repeatable clamping solution to glue two end blocks to two side halves of an acoustic guitar subassembly.

SOLUTION

The customer specified improved consistency in work piece clamping, ease of use, and reduced cycle time over their previous threaded clamping fixture. Four model 603 straight-line action clamps were incorporated into the design of this fixture to facilitate fast and reliable loading/unloading by the operator. The toggle-action of the 603 clamps maintains consistent pressure on the joints while the glue cures.

RESULTS

The customer realized an increase in productivity over the previous threaded fastener design of approximately 300%. Along with the productivity improvement, the toggle action of the 603 clamps provided consistent clamping force on the glue joints, improving the dimensional stability of the finished subassembly by approximately 30%.
